Israel will prohibit the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) from operating within the country due to its cooperation with and facilitation of Hamas terrorists.

“UNRWA – the organization whose employees participated in the October 7th massacre and many of whose employees are Hamas operatives – is part of the problem in the Gaza Strip and not part of the solution,” Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz stated.

Israel’s Knesset recently passed the legislation which will see the terrorist sympathizing organization banned from operation in Israeli territory in three months.

During an interview of “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, Representative Chris Smith stated:

With “all of the mass killing [on October 7] there were some UNRWA leaders who were absolutely in the forefront of doing that.“

“The problem with UNRWA … has been around for decades. Two decades ago, I offered an amendment to defund them because they were — even then — a child soldier factory, where Hamas and other hate-filled organizations were teaching kids, from the earliest years, to hate and to loathe all Jews, and that the best Jew is a dead Jew.”

Earlier this year, a bill to defund UNRWA was introduced by Smith “that would say clearly and unambiguously: ‘no money for UNRWA,’ and any organization that does get our funding for humanitarian purposes has to be properly vetted,” he commented.

Thus far, the Biden Administration has provided $1 billion to UNRWA alone and that doesn’t include the amount of money he’s given to the United Nations.

Under the previous Trump Administration, however, President Trump withdrew funding from several branches of the United Nations, including UNRWA.

After Israel’s Knesset made the decision to ban UNRWA, the Biden Administration said they were going to withhold military support munitions from Israel if they didn’t allow don’t allow humanitarian aid to come through UNRWA.

So does this mean Palestinians will be cut off from all humanitarian aid?

No.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller previously admitted “there are other humanitarian organizations that operate inside Gaza that are delivering aid; there are other U.N. agencies that are operating inside Gaza.”

Foreign Minister Katz has commented on how a mere 13% of current aid to Gaza goes through UNRWA, so there are many other organizations doing humanitarian work who do not have alliances with Hamas.

Israel will also continue working with international partners as stated by Israeli Foreign Ministry Director-General Jacob Blitshtein in a letter to UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang of Cameroon:

“Israel will continue to work with international partners, including other United Nations agencies, to ensure the facilitation of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza in a way that does not undermine Israel’s security. Israel expects the United Nations to contribute to and cooperate in this effort.”
