YouVersion, a popular Bible app, reports an unprecedented surge in user engagement this year, with more people than ever turning to Scripture and prayer to deepen their connection with God.

The app’s developers released a statement that the most searched Bible verse of 2024 reveals a collective longing for comfort and peace during difficult times.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 was the number one verse most drawn upon by app users.

The surge in those seeking out this verse reveals a need amongst the hearts of many at this time – a need to combat anxiety.

YouVersion Founder and CEO Bobby Gruenewald believes that the popularity of that particular Bible verse is a sign of people looking to God during times of uncertainty.

“In many cases, our anxiety comes from holding onto worries that we aren’t meant to carry,” said Gruenewald in a statement.

“To me, this verse being sought out the most this year is an illustration that our community is seeking God in prayer and choosing to trust Him to carry their burdens — and we’re seeing that supported in the data.”

Engagement with the prayer features of the YouVersion app increased by 46% in 2024 compared to 2023 with “prayer” and “peace” also topping the list of in-app searches.
