Democrat Shutdown Just Helped Trump Slash Federal Jobs, Spending

President Trump is seizing the government shutdown as a prime chance to slash wasteful federal spending, potentially leading to permanent layoffs for some bureaucrats.
President Trump views the federal shutdown as an “unprecedented opportunity” to shrink the bloated government.

In a Thursday meeting with Budget Director Russell Vought, Trump revealed the administration would review which federal agencies deserve temporary or permanent cuts. “I’m allowed to cut things that should have never been approved in the first place and I will probably do that,” Trump said.
These discussions follow Trump’s bold move to freeze $18 billion in funding for New York City infrastructure boondoggles and scrap another $8 billion for climate boondoggles in 16 Democrat strongholds.
Yet, with no spending deal in sight, many federal workers’ jobs hang in the balance.
The Trump administration has warned it may begin dismissing federal employees within the week.
Republicans are pushing a clean short-term bill to keep funding at current levels through late November. Democrats, however, are holding it hostage unless it extends Obamacare tax credits to prevent premium hikes for millions, including illegal aliens.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that, “Republicans have shut the government down, because they don’t want to provide health care to middle-class Americans.” Meanwhile, as conservatives are seeking to advance real health care reforms, Senate Majority Leader John Thune told Politico he’s talked with Democrats about those Obamacare subsidies and he’s insisting on reopening the government first via a House-passed spending measure before any talks.
