They’re Erasing Christian America: Pastor Howerton Just Proved It

Pastor Josh Howerton presented research from WallBuilders, the organization dedicated to restoring the Christian heritage of America, on his podcast, and shared a discovery that’s devastating the secular revisionist narrative: the first prayer ever delivered to the Continental Congress.

This prayer, offered in 1774 as America’s founding body convened, is explicitly and unapologetically Christian. It invokes God as “high and mighty King of kings and Lord of lords,” appeals for divine wisdom and protection, and closes with these words: “All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior. Amen.”

Yet for 250 years, progressives have systematically erased this Christian foundation from our national memory. Americans are told their nation was founded on Enlightenment secularism, that the Founders were deists indifferent to Christ, and that religion was always peripheral to the American project. The evidence says otherwise.

Howerton didn’t just expose historical revisionism; he explained the strategy behind it. He connected the dots to Romans 1, where Paul describes how people “suppress the truth in their unrighteousness.” When ideology becomes an idol, truth becomes expendable, facts are rewritten, history is sanitized, and reality is denied.

The strategy is simple: rewrite the past to control the future.

If progressives can erase Christian America from memory, they can build a godless future without resistance. If Americans don’t know their Christian heritage, they won’t fight to preserve it. They’ll accept the secular narrative as inevitable rather than as a radical, recent departure.

This isn’t a historical disagreement. It’s spiritual warfare disguised as academia.

The First Continental Congress didn’t whisper prayers in private corners. This was public, official, foundational. America’s first unified act as a sovereign nation was to kneel before Jesus Christ and invoke His name. That reality threatens the secular vision progressives are constructing, so it must be erased.

Romans 1:18 is unambiguous: “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness.”

What Howerton identifies is spiritual rebellion masquerading as scholarship. When an ideology, especially secularism, becomes an idol, truth becomes collateral damage.

Here’s what you must do:

Know your history. Read the founding documents yourself. Don’t let revisionist textbooks be your guide. Teach your children the truth, that their nation was born on its knees before Christ. Reclaim the narrative. Let people hear the Founders’ actual words, not progressives’ sanitized versions.

Most importantly, recognize the spiritual battle. This isn’t about dusty history. It’s about whether America remembers God or forgets Him entirely. Pray for national repentance and that the Church awakens to her prophetic calling.

Pastor Howerton just handed you a weapon: the actual words of America’s founding prayer. Don’t let them be suppressed again. Defend them, speak them, and reclaim them.
