“Like any mother of a teenage boy, I worry about toxic masculinity. But treating boys as porn-addled “predators in waiting” is not the answer, writes Camilla Tominey in the Telegraph.

The UK government is at it again… but this time they aren’t seeking to censor individuals for posting “wrong think” or jailing women for silently praying in their heads (although, they’re doing both of these things). This time, they’re targeting young boys in school, not to increase their knowledge of philosophy or mathematics, but to tackle their “misogyny.”

Teachers will now be trained to spot early signs of masculinity in boys, of which they’re labeling “misogyny,” as young as 11.

Under the guise of promoting healthy relationships and distinguishing between pornography and real life, this initiative risks painting natural masculine traits as inherently toxic.

As a young woman who strongly believes in the value and influence of families being a key to thriving societies, I can’t help but see this as yet another attack on the very foundations that hold our communities together: the positive, protective power of masculinity.

Boys’ masculinity isn’t the enemy, far from it. They are the future builders, protectors, and leaders we desperately need. Instead of shaming them, we should be uplifting them.

So, what is the program at hand? It’s actually part of the UK’s broader strategy to halve violence against women and girls over the next decade. The strategy involves starting young boys on anti-misogyny courses. Teachers will be instructed to intervene at the first whiff of what the government deems problematic behavior.

But what does this really mean? In practice, it often translates to labeling traditional masculine qualities; like assertiveness, competitiveness, or even a sense of humor, as red flags for “toxicity.” As someone who grew up with brothers, these are essential elements which contribute to the formation of healthy men!

We’ve seen this playbook before in cultural narratives that equate masculinity with evil, ignoring the profound good that well-channeled male energy brings to the world.

Men and boys aren’t born oppressors; they are wired to provide, protect, and persevere. By framing their innate strengths as dangers, this program empowers no one, and instead, it demoralizes the very group that has historically shouldered the burdens of society. And oh, how we should bless our men for those contributions!
Ultimately, women and children are the biggest losers of a society that labels masculinity as “toxic.”

From the fathers who rise before dawn to provide for their families, teaching their sons responsibility and resilience, to the husbands who stand as pillars of support in relationships, offering stability and love, masculinity is a gift to us all.

Think of the firefighters rushing into burning buildings, the soldiers defending our freedoms, the entrepreneurs building economies that lift entire nations, the oil field workers who leave their families for weeks on end; these men aren’t feeding toxicity in society, they’re utilizing their God-given strength and drive to lead and sacrifice for the betterment of their homes and our nations.

I have witnessed many homes where a strong man fosters security which encourages his wife and children to flourish. In relationships, he brings balance, respect, and passion. For the nation, masculinity means innovation, defense, and progress. We owe our men gratitude, not suspicion. They are heroes, not villains, and it’s high time we celebrated them as such.

Yet, while the UK busies itself indoctrinating its own boys into self-loathing, it simultaneously opens its doors to individuals from cultures where genuine, systemic misogyny thrives. This is the dangerous parallel that demands scrutiny: a nation fixated on phantom threats from within whilst importing real ones from abroad.

Consider the influx of migrants from countries like Afghanistan, where, under Taliban rule, women are barred from education, public life, and looking out of windows in their own homes; this is true misogyny enshrined in law. Or what about Palestine, where honor killings and gender-based oppression persist? Disturbingly, these actions are most often excused away as mere cultural relativism and those of us in the West are told to simply accept that multiculturalism is a strengthening agent in society. What a joke.

The UK has resettled thousands from regions that promote the beliefs that drive misogynistic actions and they do it through humanitarian routes (shocker), yet without robust integration measures, these imported attitudes are taking root in British society.

Statistics bear this out: reports link spikes in certain crimes, including violence against women, to unvetted immigration from high-risk areas. So why target innocent schoolboys for re-education when the real perpetrators of misogyny are being welcomed with open arms? This hypocrisy is undermining the safety of women and girls whilst eroding the cultural fabric that values true equality.

Encouraging boys to embrace their masculinity isn’t about ignoring problems; it’s about channeling their strengths for good. Teach them respect, yes, but through positive role models, not shame. Show them how their protective instincts can build loving homes and strong communities.

Discourage aggression toward women by highlighting the nobility in defending them, not by deeming all male behavior suspect. The UK’s approach does the opposite, risking a generation of emasculated men who shy away from leadership, leaving a vacuum that could be filled by those with far darker views on gender.

In the end, masculinity isn’t the problem; it’s the solution.

To our boys and men: You are valued and needed. Develop your strengths with pride; society thrives because of you.

To the UK government: Rethink this folly. Protect your people by addressing real threats, not fabricating ones in the classroom. Our families, relationships, and nation depend on it.
