Why Christians Should Proudly Celebrate America at 250 - Revival Nation News - Blog

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026, we have an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable story of our nation. Some have pointed to Sir John Glubb’s The Fate of Empires, noting that many great powers have risen and fallen in roughly 250 years, yet as Christians, we respond with confidence and gratitude that this milestone need not mark decline; if we remember who we are, whose we are, and why this nation’s welfare matters.

America didn’t arise as just another empire chasing glory through conquest, it was founded by people fleeing tyranny and seeking a land where they could worship God freely, build families, and pursue the common good under laws rooted in biblical truth and natural rights.

The Declaration of Independence appealed to “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God,” affirming that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. The Constitution established a limited government designed to secure those rights while restraining the very human sin that has toppled other regimes.

This is the foundation that has allowed America to endure where others faltered. We’ve weathered civil war, world wars, economic depressions, and cultural upheavals not because we’re immune to sin or folly, but because generations of Americans, motivated by Christian conviction, have renewed the nation’s commitment to liberty, justice, and self-government.

We should be deeply proud of this inheritance!

America has been a beacon of hope, a defender of the weak against totalitarian evils, an engine of innovation that has lifted billions out of poverty worldwide, and a land where the church has flourished with freedoms unmatched in most of human history. Our military has liberated the oppressed, our missionaries, charities, and free enterprise have fed the hungry and clothed the naked and our constitutional republic has proven resilient precisely because it accounts for human fallenness while calling citizens to virtue.

In a recent statement, Senator Marco Rubio captured this truth: “Our foreign policy is one that’s solely focused on the national interest of the United States of America. American leadership should always be on behalf of the American interest.” Whilst some decry his statement as isolationism or selfishness, the truth is he is acting with prudent stewardship.

A strong, prosperous, and morally grounded America is better positioned to bless the world than a weakened one adrift in global entanglements. History shows that when America loses focus on its own people and principles, both we and our allies suffer. Thus, prioritizing American strength, security, borders, economy, and values enables us to project light rather than be consumed by endless crises abroad.

Scripture gives us the clearest reason to love and labor for our nation. In Jeremiah 29:7, God instructed His people exiled in Babylon: “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”

The exiles weren’t told to plot an overthrow or withdraw in resentment. They were commanded to build, plant, pray, and pursue the good of the pagan empire that held them captive because their flourishing was bound up with its!

How much more, then, should we who are citizens of this land, beneficiaries of its blessings and heirs of its godly roots, seek America’s welfare?

When our nation upholds justice, protects life, honors the family, guards religious liberty, and maintains ordered liberty, it’s not only the Christians who thrive but all citizens! When it drifts toward decadence: moral confusion, family breakdown, crushing debt, or the erosion of truth, we all suffer. Our personal welfare, the church’s mission, the raising of faithful children, and the advance of the Gospel are inseparably linked to the health of the republic.

Understand this: God appoints authorities and places us in specific times and lands for His purposes (Acts 17:26). Loving our neighbors includes abiding by the framework of laws and institutions that shape our daily lives. Reforming what is broken, preserving what is good, and passing on a better inheritance to the next generation honors the Lord.

We must view the 250-year cyclical pattern of power to ruin outlined by Glubb as a warning, not a death sentence. Empires fell when they forgot God, exalted affluence over virtue, sacrificed the future for present pleasures, and abandoned the moral order that sustained them. America faces real challenges: family erosion, cultural division, fiscal irresponsibility, and secular pressures against faith. There’s also a lot of great things taking place! Bible sales are skyrocketing, young men are returning to the church, and freedoms once under threat in this nation are being protected and exercised. There’s a lot to be grateful for!

Let this 250th anniversary be a call to proud, prayerful patriotism. Teach your children America’s exceptional story not as flawless perfection, but as a flawed people repeatedly drawn back to founding principles and higher ideals. Engage locally and nationally for righteousness. Pray fervently for leaders who prioritize our founding principles and our national interest. Work heartily as unto the Lord in your vocation, family, and community. And above all, proclaim the Gospel that transforms hearts, the only lasting antidote to the decadence that felled prior powers.

America lasting 250 years isn’t an accident; it’s the providence of God and the faithfulness of many.

This milestone is one that Christians can proudly celebrate with gratitude because, as it says in God’s Word, as we seek the welfare of this nation under God, we will find our own and extend blessings to generations yet unborn.

May the Lord heal our land as we humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from wicked ways (2 Chronicles 7:14).
