Democrat Leader Solicited Donations from Jeffrey Epstein

Newly unsealed records from Jeffrey Epstein’s files, released last week by the House Oversight Committee, contain a 2013 fundraising pitch sent directly to Epstein on behalf of then-freshman Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), urging the financier, fresh off a controversial plea deal for procuring an underage girl, to donate and attend an exclusive dinner with President Barack Obama.
The email came from Lisa Rossi at Dynamic “SRG,” a New York fundraising firm working for Jeffries, who had only been in Congress a few months. Rossi described Jeffries as “Brooklyn’s Obama” and pressed Epstein to join a high-dollar DCCC/DSCC event featuring the president just days later.
From the email:
“Hakeem is committed to electing a Democrat majority in 2014 and is encouraging his friends to participate in the […] fundraising dinner with President Obama this coming Monday night… If you’d like to get involved with the dinner or have an opportunity to get to know Hakeem better, please give me a call or shoot me an email.”
House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) read portions of the correspondence aloud on the House floor during debate on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which passed 427–1.
“Another email shows fundraisers invited Epstein to an event or to meet privately with Hakeem Jeffries as part of their 2013 effort to win a majority,” Comer said. “So Hakeem Jeffries’ campaign solicited money from Jeffrey Epstein. That’s what we found in the last document batch.”
At the time the email was sent in May 2013, Epstein had been out of Florida custody for roughly four years after serving 13 months of an 18-month sentence under a widely criticized 2008 plea deal.
Comer also renewed demands for former President Bill Clinton to appear for a deposition: “The Oversight Committee subpoenaed him… the Democrats have done nothing to help secure his appearance,” he stated. “The Oversight Committee will continue to work to get the truth to the American people and to get justice for the victims. That’s our goal of this investigation.”
The revelations quickly drew fire online, with Donald Trump Jr. posting:
“So a convicted sex offender who trafficked kids gets invited to a private dinner with Obama and a meeting with Jeffries five years after being released but it’s somehow still all about Trump? The Epstein saga is a hoax re Trump, but not the Democrats who he funded & enabled him!”
Jeffries has declined to answer questions about the solicitation email.
Meanwhile, the same document dump exposed extensive text-message coaching between Epstein and non-voting Delegate Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) during a 2019 hearing where Plaskett questioned Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen. Epstein watched the hearing live, complimented Plaskett’s appearance, fed her lines, and texted “Good work” within a minute of her finishing.
Plaskett also accepted several thousand dollars in campaign contributions from Epstein in 2016 and 2018. Epstein owned Little St. James, his private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, which fell inside Plaskett’s congressional jurisdiction.
On Tuesday, members of the House Freedom Caucus introduced a resolution to strip Plaskett of her seat on the House Intelligence Committee, citing the real-time coaching from Epstein as a serious compromise.
The steady drip of Epstein-related congressional contacts which now touches the current House Democratic leader and a sitting Intelligence Committee member, has intensified calls from Republicans for fuller transparency and accountability across both parties, though the latest headlines have landed almost exclusively on Democratic figures.
