George Soros Funds Internal UN Campaign – Why It Matters

Billionaire financier and radicalized activist George Soros is funding a major effort to elect a woman as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations through his “1 for 8 Billion” campaign.
The 1 for 8 Billion campaign has been actively promoting favored candidates, publishing their preferred criteria online, and lobbying UN member states to support contenders who will advance feminist priorities, including gender ideology and so-called “abortion rights.”
Seed funding for the campaign has been received from Soros’s Open Society Foundations, which also backs several partner NGOs such as CIVICUS (World Alliance for Citizen Participation) and Outright International, amongst others.
The four leading candidates: Chile’s Michelle Bachelet, Costa Rica’s Rebecca Grynspan, Argentina’s Rafael Mariano Grossi, and Senegal’s Macky Sall were all interviewed before the General Assembly and civil society on April 21-22. All of them pro-abortion and anti-family. Is anyone really that surprised, however?
One of the campaign’s key questions to candidates was whether they would address “anti-gender pushback” at local, national, and multilateral levels, which it claims is reversing gains on gender equality, reproductive justice, and the rights of women and girls “in all their diversity.” (Note: that last term, “Women and girls in all their diversity” really means men and boys merely identifying as women and girls).
This narrative was highlighted at the Commission on the Status of Women back in March, where a UN event co-sponsored by Finland, Germany, and the UK released a report titled “Understanding Backlash Against Gender Equality.” A UN Women policy advisor warned that “anti-gender activists” (those who believe in basic biology) have moved into mainstream multilateral spaces and are engaging in “norm spoiling” to undermine women’s rights and LGBTQI+ norms.
Bachelet, the former head of UN Women, earned strong support from the campaign for her record on gender equality, pushing the LGBTQIA++ agenda, and trying to advance so-called “reproductive issues” (abortion) during her time as Chile’s president.
Grynspan has been more reserved on these topics, though the campaign praised her commitment to women’s rights and civil society partnerships. However, critics argue the two women candidates come from the same ideological background.
Valerie Huber, president of the Institute for Women’s Health, issued a warning for civil society and for member states at the UN: “Do not be deceived by the contrast between Michelle Bachelet and Rebecca Grynspan. Bachelet is the foil… Both must be vetoed.”
A victory for either woman this July would mark the first female Secretary-General in the UN’s 81-year history. However, the candidates must first secure approval in the Security Council, requiring at least nine votes and no veto from any of the five permanent members.
Members of Congress have already called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to veto Bachelet, while pro-life groups are voicing opposition despite being significantly outspent by Soros-supported organizations.
Pray that the United States would do the right thing and veto Bachelet. Pray that the anti-family agenda playing out at the UN wouldn’t just be thwarted, but that it would be destroyed by its own hand. Pray for other nations at the UN to boldly take a stand for what is right and not rely so heavily upon what the United States does, but that they would count the cost for themselves and stand for righteousness.
