Nigeria Under Fire as Christian Killings Mount and Officials Face Scrutiny - Revival Nation News - Blog

Nigeria is facing renewed scrutiny over persistent attacks on Christian communities, with one humanitarian leader accusing the government of failing to confront the violence while investing heavily in protecting its international reputation.

Nearly 5,000 Christians worldwide were reportedly killed for their faith in 2025, with approximately 72% of those deaths occurring in Nigeria. Brad Brandon, founder and CEO of the relief organization Across Nigeria, told The Washington Stand that the scale and pattern of the killings amount to genocide, and that Nigerian authorities have repeatedly failed to protect vulnerable communities.

Brandon also pointed to reports that the Nigerian government paid $9 million to Washington-based public relations and lobbying firm DCI Group. He alleged that the campaign was intended to discourage American lawmakers from drawing greater attention to the persecution of Christians.

Across Nigeria is now examining whether money may have been directed through affiliated organizations connected to major media outlets. Those allegations have not been independently established in the source material.

Brandon argued that the effort is connected to Nigeria’s economic instability. He cited $547 billion reportedly divested from the country in 2024, suggesting officials may be attempting to improve Nigeria’s image and attract foreign investment.

The humanitarian leader also described witnessing the consequences of delayed security responses firsthand. During one attack, he said government forces stationed roughly 20 minutes away took nearly three hours to arrive. Ten people were killed and buried in a mass grave. After security personnel departed, the village was attacked again that night, leaving five more dead.

Violence by Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa and armed bandit groups has destabilized large areas of northern Nigeria. Brandon said the resulting lawlessness allows militants to slaughter villagers, abduct residents and steal property with little fear of consequences.

Although Nigerian officials have disputed claims that the violence specifically targets Christians, Brandon said casualty patterns tell a different story. He further argued that the country’s political and constitutional structures heavily favor Islam, noting the prominence of Sharia law within Nigeria’s governing framework.

Across Nigeria is calling for greater transparency, stronger security measures, and international accountability. Yet Brandon maintained that political action alone cannot heal the nation.

“Governments can help, organizations can help,” he said, “but the ultimate solution is the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
