Pakistan’s Persecution Crisis Deepens: Christian Father of Four Murdered Over Water

Christian Father of Four Murdered Over Water - Revival Nation News - Blog

Siddique Masih, a 40-year-old Catholic and father of four, was murdered at a brick kiln in Pakistan’s Punjab Province. His crime: drinking water from a cooler shared by other laborers. His murderer: a Muslim co-worker named Ahmad Varyam who deemed him unworthy of the same water.

According to eyewitnesses and local pastor Saleem Ghouri, Siddique and Ahmad had a brief wage-related dispute that appeared resolved. Hours later, when Siddique approached the water cooler, Ahmad confronted him and refused to let him drink because he was Christian. Siddique responded by comparing Ahmad’s conduct to Yazid, who denied water to Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Imam Hussain before the massacre at Karbala, a reference to Islamic history Ahmad apparently found unforgivable.

Ahmad pulled a knife, grabbed Siddique from behind, and slit his throat. Siddique died at the scene.

The murder has devastated a family already living on the edge of survival. Siddique was the sole breadwinner for his wife and four minor children. One son suffers from thalassemia and requires blood transfusions every two to three weeks. The family lived in rented housing and was already struggling financially. Now they face an uncertain future with no income and mounting medical bills.

Rafique Masih, Siddique’s brother who witnessed the aftermath, was left in shock. “Even if there had been a disagreement, nothing could justify such violence,” he said. “My brother was a devoted Christian, a loving father and a hardworking man whose only concern was providing for his family and ensuring medical treatment for his sick son.”

Siddique’s murder is not an isolated incident. It reflects a systemic pattern of violence against Pakistan’s Christian minority. In March 2026, 21-year-old Dilshad Masih was tortured to death by Muslim employers, his death staged as suicide. In May 2025, Kashif Masih was tortured and killed over a theft accusation. In March 2025, Waqas Masih survived a throat-slashing attack. In February 2025, Wasif George was publicly humiliated and paraded on a donkey.

Open Doors ranked Pakistan eighth on its 2026 World Watch List for Christian persecution, citing systemic discrimination, mob violence, forced conversions, and bonded labor. Perpetrators routinely act with impunity due to weak law enforcement and societal indifference.

A widow grieves. Four children ask for a father who will never come home. A son waits for blood transfusions that his mother cannot afford. And a murderer may walk free while justice remains a distant hope. This is the reality for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Pakistan. They are not statistics or prayer points in a newsletter—they are your family in Christ. They are suffering while we sleep in safety.

Keep praying for Siddique’s widow and children. Keep interceding for the persecuted Church in Pakistan. Keep crying out to God for justice and protection over those who follow Jesus in darkness. And remember: when you pray for them, you are standing with them in their agony. Your prayers are their lifeline. Do not stop. Do not forget. Keep praying.
