Historic: President Trump Reads Scripture for ‘America Reads The Bible’

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, hundreds of leaders from government, ministry, entertainment, and civil society are uniting to read the entire Bible aloud over the course of one week in our nation’s capitol, declaring that God’s Word remains the bedrock of this exceptional nation.
The landmark event called “America Reads The Bible” kicked off with contributions from Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, Reverend Franklin Graham and many other faithful voices. Collectively, the participants are reading straight through Scripture from Genesis to Revelation with the readings streamed for all Americans to witness and join in.

A pinnacle moment arrives tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21, when President Donald J. Trump will read from 2 Chronicles 7:11-22 live from the Oval Office between 6 and 7 PM ET. Organizers intentionally reserved this powerful passage for the President, a section that includes God’s promise to us which is found in verse 14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
This stands as a defining spiritual moment for our republic. From the highest office in the land, and arguably the world, a bold public acknowledgment will be made that America’s greatness has always been tied to her reliance upon Almighty God.

For decades, many have sought to push faith to the margins, but this initiative is yet another indicator that as a nation we’re returning to the foundations that made this country into that “shining city on a hill” which President Ronald Regan once proudly called out great nation.
Speaker Johnson captured the heart of the moment beautifully during the opening celebration. “We are here to defend and restore the foundations” of our nation, he declared. Reflecting on his own lifelong trust in Scripture, Johnson shared, “From the time I was twelve years old, I knew that God’s Word is flawless and true.”
His words echo the conviction of our Founding Fathers, who didn’t view the Bible as a mere religious text but as the moral and philosophical foundation for liberty, justice, and self-government. As Johnson and others have noted, this weeklong reading through the Scriptures in the nation’s capital marks a historic first in the modern era, a collective act of national remembrance and rededication as we celebrate 250 years of God’s providence over America.
I’m looking forward to being part of America Reads the Bible, a week-long event where the entire Bible will be read aloud in honor of our nation’s 250th anniversary! I’ll be reading Luke 10, including the parable of the Good Samaritan—a passage that inspired the name and mission… pic.twitter.com/rvhDywkXNo

Nearly 500 participants, including cabinet members, members of Congress, governors, faith leaders, and cultural influencers, are taking part in this extraordinary endeavor. The entire Bible will be proclaimed aloud, reminding us that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).
This event signals a renewed hunger for biblical truth in the public square and a willingness amongst our leaders to humble themselves before the Lord. As 2 Chronicles 7 reminds us, national healing flows from repentance, prayer, and seeking God’s face.
This is yet another reason to celebrate!
Pray for President Trump as he delivers God’s Word from the Oval Office, pray for Speaker Johnson and all the readers and pray that this historic reading would spark a fresh awakening across our land, that America would once again stand unashamedly as one nation under God.
