Hollywood Sides With Criminal Suspect Who Attacked Federal Officers

Hollywood celebrities, including Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, Jean Smart, Natasha Lyonne, and others, turned the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet into a political statement by wearing “Be Good” and “ICE Out” pins in tribute to Renee Good, the Minneapolis woman fatally shot by an ICE agent on January 7 after allegedly accelerating her vehicle toward an officer during a confrontation.

Official accounts from the Department of Homeland Security describe Good as an “agitator” who used her SUV to block and threaten agents, justifying the shooting as self-defense amid escalating obstruction. This begs the questions: why is it that Hollywood actors are so willing to offer their support to a woman and cause that calls Americans to disobey the laws of the land?
A lesser known fact about Good is her affiliation with a Minneapolis-based activist collective known as “ICE Watch” (often stylized as MN Ice Watch), a loose, autonomous network dedicated to monitoring, documenting, and resisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the area. The group operates primarily through social media channels, such as Instagram, where it crowdsources anonymous tips on ICE agent locations, appearances, vehicle details, and activities, sharing this information to alert community members and encourage rapid response.

ICE Watch trains participants in tactics to interfere with federal enforcement, including how to obstruct or block law enforcement vehicles, “de-arrest” detainees by physically intervening, and escalate confrontations through methods like surrounding agents, using noise (whistles, drums, horns), and impeding access.
Reports indicate the group held a specific training session via Zoom just days before the January 7, 2026, incident, on January 5, focusing on “what to do, what not to do” when encountering ICE agents, including knowing rights, whistling alerts, and other obstruction techniques.
With these important details, we return to the issue that is Hollywood. Mark Ruffalo, nominated for his role in “Task,” was seen sporting the “Be Good” pin which prompted inquiries from reporters. Ruffalo said Good was “murdered,” while expressing fear over other current events: “This is for the people in the United States who are terrorized and scared today.” In a separate red carpet interview, Wanda Sykes called the incident “awful” and urged speaking out against what she termed a “rogue government.”

These displays serve as an example of “elite” disconnect, with celebrities in luxury settings mourning a figure involved in violent resistance to immigration enforcement. Meanwhile, many Americans view ICE actions as necessary for public safety and border security.
Bill Maher, notably, dismissed the pins on the carpet, scoffing at their effectiveness and saying, “If they didn’t act like such thugs, it wouldn’t have had to happen. But I don’t need to wear a pin about it.”
Such actions aren’t new for Hollywood, which has long been criticized for selective outrage that prioritizes activist narratives over facts in law enforcement encounters.
The pins, backed by groups like the ACLU, are rightfully drawing backlash for glorifying criminal behavior against officers who are doing their jobs and carrying out the law.
