From Targeted to Welcomed: Christians in Two Presidencies

Since the beginning of President Trump’s second administration, he has moved decisively to protect religious liberty and end the weaponization of federal law enforcement against people of faith.

Not only did he issue full pardons to 23 pro-life activists convicted under the FACE Act, reinstate service members discharged for refusing COVID-19 vaccines on religious grounds, reinstate the White House Faith Office, and established a Religious Liberty Commission but the Trump DOJ has also sharply limited future FACE Act prosecutions, directing that they only be pursued in extraordinary circumstances.

These actions stand in sharp contrast to the Biden administration, which a series of new federal reports describe as having systematically marginalized Christians and weaponized the Justice Department against pro-lifers.

The Weaponization Working Group Report

The Trump DOJ’s Weaponization Working Group released an 880-page report this week after reviewing over 700,000 internal records. It concludes that the Biden Justice Department deliberately weaponized the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act against pro-life activists while largely ignoring violent attacks on pregnancy resource centers and houses of worship.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche declared: “This Department will not tolerate a two-tiered system of justice.” Assistant Attorney General Daniel Burrows called the conduct “shameful,” accusing Biden-era lawyers of withholding evidence, attempting to exclude religious jurors, and turning the DOJ into an enforcement arm for pro-abortion special interests.

Collaboration with Pro-Abortion Groups

Biden-era prosecutors actively partnered with abortion advocacy organizations, including the National Abortion Federation, Planned Parenthood, and the Feminist Majority Foundation. These groups supplied dossiers, real-time intelligence, and enforcement targets.

Emails show DOJ attorney Sanjay Patel praising the National Abortion Federation’s security director as an “MVP” for triggering investigations. One lead prosecutor even served as a reference for the National Abortion Federation’s grant application without documented ethics approval.

Tracking Pro-Lifers and Their Families

Surveillance extended far beyond normal law enforcement. One dossier provided to the DOJ exceeded 130 pages and included photos of spouses, minor children, and driver’s license details of pro-life conference attendees.

Prosecutors screened jurors for conservative or religious views, with one internal email complaining about a “very Catholic magistrate” who was overly protective of defendants’ First Amendment rights.

A Two-Tiered System of Justice

Sentencing disparities were dramatic. Biden prosecutors sought an average of 26.8 months in prison for pro-life defendants compared to just 12.3 months for pro-abortion defendants. Despite a surge in attacks on pregnancy resource centers after Roe v. Wade was overturned, the Biden DOJ charged just five individuals for such violence, versus more than 45 cases against pro-life activists.

The Broader Anti-Christian Bias Report

These findings build on a separate preliminary report from the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias. It accused the Biden administration of weaponizing multiple federal agencies against Christians while failing to prosecute clear anti-Christian bias. The task force cited targeting of religious health providers at HHS, reports of FEMA skipping Trump-supporting Christian areas during disaster relief, and the EEOC approving less than 3% of religious vaccine accommodation requests.

Trump’s Faith Agenda

Undeterred, the Trump administration continues to prioritize religious liberty with Trump reinstating the White House Faith Office under Florida pastor Paula White-Cain and created a Religious Liberty Commission to strengthen protections for future generations. Speaking at the Museum of the Bible, he declared that he had ended the weaponization of law enforcement against believers and delivered justice to those wrongly imprisoned.

The stark differences between the two administrations, one that appeared to target people of faith and another that has placed Christianity at the center of its governing agenda, have sparked intense national debate that is far from over.
