Largest Teachers Union Sends Members A Map Completely Erasing Israel

The largest teachers’ union in the United States has sparked outrage by allegedly distributing an email to its approximately 3 million members that included a map entirely omitting Israel, instead labeling the area as Palestine.
According to the Jewish News Syndicate, the National Education Association (NEA) sent the email on Friday, offering resources for “teaching about indigenous peoples.” The North American Values Institute (NAVI) reported that the email contained the controversial map and linked to materials defending Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and 250 abductions to Palestine.

Steven Rosenberg, NAVI’s regional director in Philadelphia, expressed alarm to JNS, stating, “It’s deeply troubling that the nation’s largest teachers’ union would promote materials trafficking in antisemitic tropes and attempts to rationalize the atrocities of Oct. 7, let alone elevate groups that glorify terrorism.”
He added, “At best, this reflects an organization that failed to meet its own standards of critical review and responsibility. That’s an inexcusable lapse for any institution entrusted with shaping young minds.”
The email reportedly urged educators to incorporate the “related sources” into their classroom instruction.
Although the NEA has since removed the contentious materials from its website, a “Native Land Digital” map still featured on the site continues to label Israel as “Palestine” and describes it as “indigenous” to the region, per NAVI’s findings.
An NEA spokesperson attributed the offensive content to a third-party source, telling The Post, “It has come to our attention that an external resource that was linked to on NEA’s website, which has been widely used by many news outlets and organizations for many years, falls well short of our standards.”
The spokesperson emphasized that the union has always “opposed antisemitism” and explained, “After we became aware of content on this website, particularly related to Israel and Palestine we conducted our own deeper review including links to additional third-party hosted content. Upon review, we immediately removed it from the website.”
The spokesperson further stated, “We condemn in the strongest of terms the deeply offensive content linked on the website, and our team is working to identify a resource that meets our specific needs and standards. We have contact the host organization to flag our serious concerns and have urged them to conduct a thorough review.”
Rosenberg criticized the NEA’s response, arguing to JNS that “quietly” removing the content lacks transparency and accountability. He called for a comprehensive explanation and a “sincere apology” from the union.
The controversy unfolded on the same day a significant ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect, following a landmark peace agreement facilitated by President Trump.
