Roblox Targets YouTuber Catching Predators On Their Platform - Revival Nation - Blog

In a sinister turn of events that reveals extreme disquiet with priorities, Roblox Corporation wrote Michael “Schlep,” a 22-year-old YouTube creator from Texas who made a name for himself by exposing suspected child predators on the extremely popular gaming platform, a cease-and-desist letter.

Schlep, whose YouTube channel Schlep.tv has over 1.6 million subscribers, has been suspended on Roblox and subjected to legal action for attempting to ensure children’s safety from exploitation on the internet. This decision not only discredits someone who will fight evil but also highlights a corporate conscience more interested in domination than in children’s welfare.

According to the Associated Press, Schlep alleges he was groomed by a Roblox developer between the ages of 12 and 15. The developer allegedly sent him graphic content, pornography and engaged in sexual conversations.

Martin D. Gould of Stinar Gould Grieco & Hensley, one of the law firms representing Schlep: “When my client attempted suicide and was hospitalized, his mother contacted Roblox seeking help.”

“Roblox was unresponsive until she [Schlep’s mother] threatened legal action. Only then did they engage — and only to claim the abuse happened ‘on another platform,’ despite the predator being a contracted Roblox developer who the company promoted at events.”

Inspired by his own experience, Schlep began conducting sting operations, posing as a child to lure predators into committing themselves. His work, as a member of squads like Predator Poachers and EDP Watch, has led to six arrests of suspected child predators across the United States. These are not mere allegations, Schlep’s actions have had tangible effects, with police thanking him for assisting in keeping people safe.

In response, instead of working with Schlep to correct the platform’s well-documented child safety issues, Roblox chose to silence him.

The cease-and-desist letter accuses Schlep of “simulated child endangerment discussions,” “disclosure of personally identifiable information,” and “encouraging users to move discussions off-platform,” saying these are in violation of Roblox’s Terms of Service and run counter to its safety standards. It’s an odd stance. Schlep’s methods, while unorthodox, are intended specifically not to entrap; his staff lets predators initiate inappropriate contact and collects evidence mostly on platforms such as Discord, not Roblox itself.

Schlep has repeatedly made efforts to inform Roblox about his findings, with nothing but indifference or silence in response.

For a company with 111.8 million daily active users, with 36% of those users under the age of 13, Roblox has been increasingly criticized for poor moderation and failure to keep young users safe from their abusers.

The company suits in Texas and Louisiana assert that Roblox prioritizes “user growth, revenue, and profits” over “child safety,” and that atrocious user-created content like “Escape to Epstein Island” and “Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe” slipped through its moderation gates. Rather than act on these system failures, Roblox is essentially suing a whistleblower who has done more to protect children than their own “diligent group of safety experts” seems capable of.

The response has been swift and justified. The #FreeSchlep campaign has gone viral online with demonstrators staging in-game protests and a petition calling for the resignation of Roblox CEO David Baszucki gaining over 110,000 signatures. Notable figures such as Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill have also chimed in on the call, with Murrill suing Roblox for being a “hunting ground for predators.” Even Chris Hansen, the former host of To Catch a Predator, has reached out to Schlep for a documentary exposing Roblox’s failures.

Where Roblox has failed, Schlep has stepped in and is working with law enforcement to have justice served.

Roblox’s claim that his actions “add risk” to users is not just unfounded but also a red herring used to divert attention from their own inaction. The company’s facade that Schlep ought to have reported suspicious activity through “official channels” ignores the fact that such channels time and again have failed victims, including Schlep himself. By banning him, Roblox is sending a chilling message: those who reveal evil will be silenced, but predators can continue on their way until public outrage demands something be done.

Schlep has vowed to continue his efforts off-platform and retained legal counsel to countersue Roblox. His resolve is a reminder that true justice typically comes from those willing to battle evil on its own terms, not from corporations operating behind veils of threats.
