5 Characteristics of Violent Faith

Faith isn’t a gentle whisper; it’s thundering, living power that smashes the pillars of disbelief and stirs God’s hand. Violent faith, as Matthew 11:12 depicts, is tenacious, fearless, and unstoppable; a faith that seizes God’s promises and refuses to release them. Here are five characteristics of this aggressive, life-altering faith, derived from Scripture that will push you towards the purpose God has for you.
A Radical, Fiery Passion
Violent faith isn’t silent or subdued, it smolders with an unstoppable zeal. When Jesus drove out the money changers from the temple in John 2:17, His disciples remembered the Scripture: “Zeal for Your house will consume me.”
This is the pulse of violent faith: a hot passion for God’s purpose that impels action. It’s not willing to stand idly by nor go unnoticed. It’s the type of faith that compels you to pray with passion, worship openly, and be called by God with every fiber of your being.
Radical passion doesn’t negotiate with apathy; it fuels a life completely committed to God’s call.
Unabashed Boldness: Fearless in the Face of Opposition
Violent faith doesn’t apologize or back down on its convictions, it boldly declares them, just as Proverbs 28:1 says: “The righteous are as bold as a lion.”
This kind of faith enters the battlefield of life courageously, not hesitating to speak God’s truth or answer His promise. That courage isn’t arrogance, it’s complete trust in God’s Word. Before the snicker of skepticism, the challenge of difficulty, or the attack of spiritual war, violent faith makes a ruckus, hanging tough and braying out God’s power without apology.
This is the kind of courage that leads to bold prayers in a resistant world, a courage which stands in the face of injustice and says “no more,” the kind of courage that shares the Gospel unashamedly despite the world’s standards (or the lack thereof).
Swift Obedience: Moving Without Delay
Violent faith doesn’t tarry. In Matthew 4:20, when Jesus sent forth Peter and Andrew, “they left their nets at once and followed Him.” Immediate obedience is a mark of violent faith.
On the flip side, disobedience happens whenever one delays their obedience and dilutes the anointing of God’s voice.
When God speaks, whether it’s through His Word, the nudge of the Spirit, or the divine door, violent faith responds expediently. It has faith that God’s timing is always best and God’s instructions are not to be questioned. It doesn’t wait for perfect situations; it acts now, trusting God will provide a way.
Claiming God’s Promises: Personal Ownership
Violent faith doesn’t study the Bible as some kind of otherworldly history book, it studies it as a living agreement.
Everything that is said, every promise, is taken personally; if God promised it, you can claim it. This is a faith that takes Scriptures like Jeremiah 29:11 or Philippians 4:19 as your own, believing that God’s promises aren’t for “someone else” but for you.
Violent faith takes Deuteronomy 31:6 which says, “The Lord your God will never leave nor forsake you,” and stands on it as a personal promise. It’s a faith that says, “If God said it, it’s mine to have, and I will run after it with all that I am.”
Refusal to Settle: Ever Pressing Forward
Violent faith refuses to plateau, never settling upon previous victories or for that which is “good enough.”
Deuteronomy 28:13 says, “The Lord will make you the head and not the tail… if you obey His commands.” Violent faith reads that verse and continues pressing forward with more of God’s presence, with more of His power, and with more of His purpose.
This refusal is a hungering, restless, and aggressive faith that moves toward the fullness of God’s plan. Whether it’s growing in prayer life, going into new ministry, or standing on faith for breakthroughs, violent faith moves ahead, never content to stay in one spot.
The Call to Violent Faith
Fierce faith isn’t hasty or random; it’s intentional, based on God’s Word, and fueled by a steadfast confidence in His character.
It’s David’s faith in pursuing Goliath, Daniel’s faith in praying in the face of the king’s mandate, Paul’s faith in preaching Christ in spite of chains. This faith doesn’t merely pray for change; it takes it, believing that God’s might is bigger than any barrier.
Fan your flame, stand tall, obey instantly, take God’s promises, and never take anything less than His best.
Remember, violent faith isn’t a feeling, it’s a lifestyle. Take it up, and watch God move mountains through you.
