Democrat Auditor Sues Her Own Party for Transparency in Alleged Fraud Case - Revival Nation News - Blog

Massachusetts State Auditor Diana DiZoglio, a well known Democrat, has taken her own party’s leaders to the Supreme Judicial Court after her office uncovered nearly $12 million in alleged fraud within public assistance programs during fiscal year 2025 alone.

The push stems from a 2024 ballot measure that voters overwhelmingly endorsed with 72% support, granting her office the power to audit the legislature. Yet legislative leaders have stonewalled access to essential documents, thus prompting this high-stakes legal challenge to enforce the will of the people.

“What are they hiding? If there’s nothing to hide, open up the doors, let the sun shine in. Let’s do this audit,” DiZoglio declared on “Saturday in America.”

“This is something that 72% of voters came out to support, crossing party lines,” she added. “You had progressive Democrats joining together with conservative Republicans. And essentially saying that they want this audit to get done.”

Massachusetts stands alone amongst U.S. states in exempting its legislature, governor’s office, and judiciary from the public records law, a setup that has long shielded taxpayer-funded operations from scrutiny. DiZoglio’s effort aims to change that, extending transparency to financial records, contracts, and more.

“This is about transparency and accountability,” she emphasized. “This is not about whether you support the right or the left. This is coming together and getting access to documents that should be a matter of public record.”

Her personal story adds weight to the mission: born to a 17 years old single mother who depended on programs like WIC, DiZoglio witnessed firsthand how vital these supports are. She became a nurse and built a stable life, underscoring why safeguarding these systems matters.

“A lot of people rely on these programs,” she said. “But folks who are committing fraud need to be held accountable. We need to root out that waste, fraud and abuse so that these systems are working as they should and people truly in need get these services.”

This fight transcends partisan boundaries. In a healthy democracy, differing ideologies: progressive, conservative, moderate, coexist and even clash productively. But when it comes to how public dollars are spent and managed, no side should fear sunlight. The Massachusetts legislature’s resistance, even from within DiZoglio’s own party, highlights a deeper issue: institutions protecting themselves at the expense of public trust.

America’s future demands exactly this kind of courage; elected officials and citizens from all perspectives and persuasions, uniting for the good of the nation. Voter-approved reforms like this one show that people across the spectrum crave honest government. When transparency prevails, fraud diminishes, resources reach those who need them, and faith in institutions strengthens.

“The Constitution is there to protect the people, not the politicians,” DiZoglio concluded.

As the Supreme Judicial Court weighs this case, the outcome could set a powerful precedent: that no branch of government is above the people’s right to know.

This pursuit of shared accountability has the potential to model the way forward for the nation, where together, our voices rally around one unbreakable principle: government must be transparent to earn its legitimacy.
