Clintons Reject In-Person Testimony In Epstein Hearings - Revival Nation - Blog

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are engaged in a protracted dispute with the Republican-led House Oversight and Accountability Committee over subpoenas requiring their in-person depositions as part of an ongoing investigation into the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

The committee, chaired by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), issued subpoenas to the Clintons in August 2025, following a bipartisan subcommittee vote in July directing the panel to seek testimony from multiple high-profile figures. The probe focuses on the federal government’s handling of sex trafficking laws and its investigations into Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal charges, and Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for related crimes.

Initially, Bill Clinton was scheduled to appear for a deposition on December 17, 2025, with Hillary Clinton set for December 18. However, the Clintons’ attorney, David Kendall, has repeatedly offered sworn written statements in lieu of live testimony, arguing that the couple has limited relevant information and that other subpoenaed individuals, primarily former attorneys general and FBI directors, were permitted to submit written responses instead.

In correspondence made public through committee releases and reporting, Kendall stated that Bill Clinton ceased contact with Epstein more than two decades ago and regrets the association. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton has no personal knowledge of Epstein’s or Maxwell’s criminal activities, never flew on Epstein’s aircraft, and doesn’t recall speaking to him.

Kendall has accused the committee of partisan bias, noting that only former Attorney General William Barr testified in person among the original subpoena recipients, and suggesting the focus on the Clintons is intended to divert attention from associations involving other figures, including President Donald Trump.

Comer has rejected these offers, insisting on in-person depositions due to the Clintons’ documented personal relationships with Epstein and Maxwell. Flight logs and other records show Bill Clinton traveled on Epstein’s private jet multiple times in the early 2000s, though he has denied visiting Epstein’s private island or having knowledge of his crimes. Comer has threatened contempt of Congress proceedings if the Clintons don’t comply, emphasizing that the committee determines the format of testimony.

As of December 15, 2025, the depositions were postponed due to scheduling conflicts, with new dates proposed for January 2026. Comer has warned that failure to appear then could trigger contempt actions.

The investigation has also involved subpoenas to the Department of Justice for Epstein-related records and testimony from former officials across multiple administrations. No criminal wrongdoing has been alleged against the Clintons in connection with Epstein.

This standoff highlights ongoing tensions over transparency in the Epstein case, with the committee recently releasing documents and photos from Epstein’s estate showing associations with various prominent individuals. The Clintons maintain their willingness to cooperate via written declarations, while the committee presses for direct questioning.
