GOP Pushes to Strip Mamdani’s Citizenship, Deport NYC Mayoral Frontrunner

Two Republican congressmen are urging the Department of Justice to investigate the naturalization process of Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic socialist surging in New York City mayoral polls, potentially revoking his U.S. citizenship and deporting him for omissions on his 2018 application.
Last week, Representative Randy Fine called on federal authorities to scrutinize “every naturalization of the past 30 years – starting with Mamdani.”

“We ought to examine how these individuals obtained citizenship, and if any fraud or rule-breaking occurred, strip it away and send them back,” Fine told the New York Post.
Fine extended his demand to include Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), the Somalia-born “Squad” member and one of the first Muslim women in Congress, amid concerns over anti-Israel stances.
Labeling Mamdani a national security risk, Fine warned: “Many of us are deeply worried about internal threats – immigrants who gain citizenship only to undermine the country.”
He brushed aside practical hurdles to denaturalizing elected officials: “If they’re not citizens, they have no business holding office.”
Since June, Representative Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) has pressed for a DOJ inquiry, accusing Mamdani of falsifying his citizenship oath by withholding key affiliations.
Ogles demanded “Deport Mamdani!” and described him as an “antisemitic socialist communist poised to ruin New York City.”
Speaking on Newsmax, Ogles stated: “In his 2018 naturalization, he omitted activities like joining the Democratic Socialists of America – a communist group that, back then, should have barred him from citizenship.”
Ogles highlighted Mamdani’s advocacy for releasing the “Holy Land Five,” Palestinian-Americans who headed the Holy Land Foundation charity and were convicted in 2008 of sending millions to Hamas.
Federal immigration rules bar entry to anyone who has “been a member of or affiliated with the Communist or any other totalitarian party.” The citizenship form requires disclosure of any association “in any way” with such groups worldwide.
President Trump has dubbed Mamdani a “communist lunatic,” a charge Mamdani rejects outright.
Representative Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.), whose district includes the heavily Muslim Dearborn Heights, urged censure of Ogles for his rhetoric.
A DOJ spokesperson declined to exclude an investigation of Mamdani.
“Congressional responses are backlog due to the Democrats’ shutdown. The department does not discuss active or prospective probes,” the spokesperson told the New York Post.
Fueling the latest controversy, Mamdani recently posted a smiling photo on X with imam Siraj Wahhaj, listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that claimed six lives.
