FBI Director Kash Patel announced an expanded investigation into the assassination of conservative speaker Charlie Kirk, focusing on individuals who communicated with the suspect, Tyler Robinson, in an online chatroom.

At a Senate hearing, Patel confirmed the FBI is examining a Discord server where Robinson allegedly discussed his plans.

Senator John Kennedy asked Patel, “So others could have been involved?” Patel responded, “Yes, sir.”

Answering questions from Senator Josh Hawley, Patel revealed that the Discord thread had as many as 20 additional users. Hawley stated. “It sounds like you’re trying to run down all of that to see if that’s accurate. Who else may have been on that thread, what they may have known? Is that fair to say?”

Patel replied, “It’s a lot more than that, and we’re running them all down.”

Pressing Patel on whether the attack reflects a broader pattern of anti-Christian violence, Patel affirmed that the FBI is investigating all users in the chatroom, serving legal process on Discord, and exploring ideological motivations and potential foreknowledge of the attack.

It was confirmed by Patel that the FBI served legal process on Discord which has allowed them to look through the digital footprint left behind in the Discord chatroom. “We’re also going to be investigating anyone and everyone involved in that Discord chat,” Patel said.

Additionally, Patel stated that, “Those closest to the suspect are going to hopefully know the most about the suspect and his beliefs and his ideology,” and how the FBI is “investigating Charlie’s assassination fully and completely and running out every lead related to any allegation of broader violence.”

The Discord chat reportedly contains indicators as to the ideological motivations, and possibly even encouragement or foreknowledge, of the attack.
