Teacher Fired for Saying She’s Pro-Life: Over 19,000 Sign Petition in Her Defense

Sarah Morse, a 66-year-old Catholic teacher in Scotland, was fired for answering a student’s question honestly. Now over 19,000 people have signed a petition demanding justice.

Morse was teaching 14- to 15-year-old students at Arbroath High School when they asked her opinion on various topics including transgenderism, President Trump, and abortion. When asked about abortion, she replied simply: “I am a faithful Roman Catholic, and I am against it.”

That’s it. No sermon. No attempt to persuade. Just an honest answer to a direct question.

By the end of the day, Morse was summoned to a meeting with senior staff and “summarily dismissed” for talking “about religion and abortion.” She wasn’t given the opportunity to share her side of the story. She was fired on the spot.

Here’s what makes this outrageous: she broke no rule. SPUC, the pro-life organization supporting her case, points out that government guidelines don’t prohibit teachers from sharing personal views, provided there’s no attempt to persuade students. Morse simply answered a question students asked her.

SPUC launched a petition on CitizenGO calling on Angus Council to acknowledge that Morse was denied a fair process, resolve her case lawfully, uphold teachers’ rights to express protected beliefs, and stop punishing teachers for honest answers. The petition has over 19,000 signatures. Morse has taken the council to an Employment Tribunal scheduled for August 24.

“If a teacher can lose their job simply for answering a pupil’s question according to their conscience, then every teacher of faith receives the same message: Hide your beliefs or risk losing your career,” SPUC stated.

John Deighan, SPUC chief executive, warned the implications extend beyond one teacher: “If people can lose their livelihoods simply for expressing a peaceful pro-life belief when asked a direct question, then freedom of conscience and freedom of expression are at risk for all of us.”

A teacher was fired because students asked a question, and the teacher answered honestly. Keep praying for all those who face persecution simply for standing firm in their faith.
