Israel-Iran Conflict: A Geopolitical Battle with Spiritual Roots

Spiritual Warfare
Israel-Iran Conflict - Revival Nation - Blog

The escalating tensions between Iran and Israel aren’t merely a geopolitical clash but a profound spiritual one with roots in the timeless truths of Scripture. The Iranian regime’s hostility to Israel and America is driven by ideological, historical, and spiritual forces that demand our attention and prayerful consideration.

The Geopolitical Reality

Israel’s war with Iran has intensified over the past few years, with Iran’s leadership openly calling for the destruction of Israel and labeling the United States as the “Great Satan.” Meanwhile, Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, its funding of terror proxies like Hezbollah and Hamas, and its aggressive rhetoric are all signs of an obvious aspiration to destabilize the region and conquer, but Israel stands in the way of this authoritarian government’s ambitions.

Recent developments, such as Iran’s missile and drone attacks on Israel in April 2023 and Israel’s bombing of Iranian military targets this week, underscore the volatility of this struggle.

The United States, Israel’s closest ally, is irresistibly drawn into this conflict, feeling Iran’s hostility through cyber attacks, proxy wars, and anti-American propaganda. The defense of Israel’s right to self-defense and America’s strategic interests in the region is absolute. A strong America and a strong Israel are crucial to preventing the spread of tyranny and defending freedom.

The Spiritual Roots of Iran’s Hatred

Geopolitics provides context, but the roots of Iran’s hatred for Israel and America are spiritual.

As Christians, we hold that the Bible reveals God’s sovereign plan for the nations, with Israel at the focal point. In Genesis 12:3, God gives Abraham this assurance: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.” Israel, the elect nation through which God brought forth His covenant and the Messiah, remains a source of spiritual warfare.

The current Iranian regime, founded on a revolutionary conception of Shia Islam, is driven by an ideology that stands in contrast to the Judeo-Christian precepts upon which Israel and America were founded with the rulers of Iran framing their struggle with Israel and the West as a cosmological battle between their version of righteousness and evil since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

This conflict is more than a clash of cultures, it is a renunciation of the God of the Bible, who has covenanted to redeem Israel (Jeremiah 31:35-37).

Satan, the adversary, seeks to reverse what God has intended which immediately makes Israel, as the covenant nation of God, and America, as a historically biblically founded nation, targets of spiritual opposition.

The hatred of the Iranian regime is fueled by an ideology that denies the authority of Scripture and seeks to erase the influence of God’s people. Their obsession with annihilating Israel is not only political; it is a rebellion against the promises of God.

Why This Is Important to Christians and Conservatives

As Christians, we are commanded to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6) and take a stand for righteousness.

The war between Israel and Iran is a reminder of the continued significance of God’s covenant with Israel and the spiritual battle in our world which makes support for Israel not just a matter of national defense but a recognition of our shared values of freedom, faith, and the value of life which are all rooted in the Judeo-Christian worldview.

Iran’s aggression also challenges America’s status as a beacon of freedom with the regime’s actions threatening the stability of the Middle East and the safety of our allies. This is further reasons why America must continue to stand for policies which strengthen our military, assert Israel’s right to exist, and defeat Iranian aggression through sanctions, diplomacy, and, where necessary, strong action.

A Call to Action

Pray Earnestly: Pray for Israel, America, and the Iranian people, who are suffering under this radical regime. Request wisdom for our leaders. Pray for protection from God for His people.

Stand Strong: Speak out for leaders and policies that stand for Israel’s right to exist and defend itself, as well as America’s position for freedom and talk with others about why this relationship is so important.

Speak Revival: The long-term solution to spiritual warfare is the spread of the Gospel. Pray for revival in Iran, where many are coming to Christ despite persecution, and revival in America to restore our biblical heritage.

Conclusion

The conflict between Israel and Iran is more than a regional power struggle; it’s a manifestation of the spiritual battle between light and darkness. As believers, we are called to pray for Israel and to seek the good of the land in which we dwell; do so earnestly as the day draws more and more near of the return of Christ.

“The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever.” Psalm 33:10-11
