Kansas Pastor Challenges Adam Hamilton’s Theology and Senate Bid in Public Letter - Revival Nation News - Blog

A Kansas pastor is calling on United Methodist pastor and U.S. Senate candidate Adam Hamilton to repent of teachings he considers contrary to Scripture and withdraw from the race.

Kyle Lammott, pastor of Exodus Church in Wichita, issued the challenge in an open letter that had attracted more than 700 signatures by Tuesday. Lammott said his appeal was based on the Bible and a pastor’s responsibility to warn when another spiritual leader is directing people away from biblical teaching.

The letter criticized Hamilton, pastor of the Church of the Resurrection, over his public positions on salvation, biblical authority, sexuality, and abortion.

Lammott specifically challenged Hamilton’s 2022 teaching that adherents of other religions could be saved through Jesus without consciously knowing Him. Quoting Romans 10, Lammott argued that the apostolic gospel requires hearing, believing, and confessing Christ.

He also accused Hamilton of undermining scriptural authority by suggesting that the Bible contains errors and by creating a division between the teachings of Jesus and Paul. Lammott maintained that Christ authorized His apostles and that Paul’s writings cannot be dismissed without weakening confidence in Scripture as a whole.

The letter further rebuked Hamilton for celebrating the United Methodist Church’s removal of language declaring homosexual practice incompatible with Christian teaching. While acknowledging Hamilton’s desire to make people feel welcome, Lammott argued that biblical welcome includes a call to repentance and transformation.

Lammott connected his demand that Hamilton leave the Senate race most directly to abortion. Hamilton’s campaign supports legal access to abortion and opposes an amendment recognizing equal rights from conception.

Citing Romans 13, Lammott argued that government bears responsibility for protecting innocent life. He said Hamilton is seeking civil authority while promising not to use it to defend unborn children.

The controversy comes as Southern Baptist Convention President Willy Rice and Family Research Council President Tony Perkins are urging pastors to speak clearly on moral and cultural questions.

Rice warned that when pulpits remain silent, Christians often receive their moral instruction from social media rather than local church leaders. Perkins similarly emphasized that churches should not become instruments of political parties but cannot ignore public debates rooted in fundamental moral questions.

“The church has to be the conscience of the culture,” Perkins said, warning that continued silence would accelerate cultural decline.
