One Pastor, One Wife, and a Fearless War on Human Trafficking's Dark Empire - Revival Nation - Blog

In a world where darkness preys on the most vulnerable, stories of light piercing through the shadows offer profound hope and so is the case of Troy Brewer, senior pastor of OpenDoor Church in Burleson, Texas, and his wife Leanna.

What began as a single, harrowing encounter in South America has blossomed into a worldwide crusade against human trafficking, rescuing thousands of children and women whilst igniting a movement of faith-driven activism.

Through their ministry, Troy Brewer Ministries, this dynamic duo proves that one couple’s unwavering commitment can ripple across continents, transforming despair into destiny.

The Spark That Ignited a Lifelong Mission

Troy Brewer’s journey into the fight against human trafficking wasn’t born from abstract policy debates or distant headlines: it was forged in the raw grit of real-world horror.

As a sixth-generation Texan with a deep-rooted passion for his faith and his community, Troy founded OpenDoor Church in 1999, aiming to be the “hands and feet of Jesus” in everyday life, but everything changed during a missions trip to South America.

Approached by a desperate woman offering her two young daughters for sale to fuel a twisted film production, Troy faced the brutal underbelly of sex trafficking head-on. That moment, as he later described it, was like “taking on hell with a water pistol.”

Refusing to turn away, Troy and Leanna committed their lives to abolition, channeling their love for God and people into direct action.

Leanna, Troy’s wife of over three decades, became the heartbeat of their efforts. Together, they travel the globe, establishing 54 safe havens thus far and pulling survivors from the clutches of traffickers.

The duo’s four grown children and two grandchildren often inspire their resolve, reminding them that every rescue is a step toward a legacy of freedom. As Troy puts it: “I write books, I pastor a church, I travel the world so I can rescue kids.”

A Ministry Built on Bold Action and Unshakable Faith

Troy Brewer Ministries operates on a three-fold mission: proclaiming the Gospel, equipping believers, and delivering practical aid to the oppressed. At its core is Answer International, a specialized arm focused on paying off the debts of sex slaves and securing their freedom in high-risk regions like India, Nepal, and Belize.

Leanna’s SPARK Worldwide initiative complements this by building orphanages and villages in remote areas, ensuring rescued children receive not just immediate safety but lifelong support: clothing, education, medical care, and spiritual nurturing.

Their approach is hands-on and holistic. In cartel-controlled zones of Mexico and Colombia, they’ve purchased children from drug lords and brothels, then introduced them to the transformative love of Jesus.

In Southeast Asia, undercover operatives have freed infants as young as 38 hours old from slave markets, funding life-saving heart surgeries and forever families.

Nepal’s porous borders to India make it a notorious trafficking hub, where girls are smuggled for exploitation with little fear of prosecution. Here, the Brewers advocate fiercely, pushing for international legislation and delivering petitions to the United Nations.

What sets their work apart is the seamless blend of spiritual warfare and strategic partnerships. Troy speaks openly about the supernatural battles they’ve faced; demonic visitations, hybrid entities, and even portals in unexpected places, yet he emphasizes that “darkness trembles at the name of Jesus.”

Collaborating with U.S. agencies like the FBI, CIA, and DOJ, as well as international governments, they’ve amplified their impact, training “nations of rescuers” to sustain the fight long-term.

Achievements That Echo Across Borders

The numbers tell a story of relentless impact. To date, Troy Brewer Ministries has rescued over 11,000 women and children from trafficking’s grip, funding more than 51 rescue homes worldwide.

Over 4,000 of these survivors have been placed in forever families, receiving education, protection, and vocational training to break cycles of poverty and abuse.

Their footprint spans Mexico, India, Colombia, Belize, Uganda, Southeast Asia, and beyond, with more than 50 child rescue centers currently operational and caring for around 4,000 children.

Troy’s influence extends to policy arenas as well. Invited to speak before Congress and at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) during the International Summit Against Human Trafficking, he has elevated the issue from church pulpits to national stages.

His media presence is vast, with appearances on podcasts, radio broadcasts, and on platforms like TBN and The Confessionals, his “yes” to Christ Jesus has helped mobilized global support in the fight for the lives of those made in God’s image.

Troy has holistically tied in the pornography issue and how this too fuels trafficking, as well as how open borders exacerbate the crisis.

These milestones aren’t just statistics; they’re testimonies. One rescued child, now thriving in a SPARK orphanage, echoes the ministry’s mantra: freedom through Jesus isn’t temporary, it’s eternal.

A Couple’s Quiet Power: Making Waves from Texas to the World

At the heart of this global effort is the partnership of Troy and Leanna Brewer.

Married for over 26 years, they model a marriage fueled by shared vision and sacrificial love. Together, they’ve turned their Texas home into a launchpad for mercy missions, proving that global change starts in the living room.

Their story challenges the notion that heroism requires vast resources or institutional backing. With a “holy hatred for slavery,” as Troy calls it, they’ve leveraged personal passion, church community, and donor partnerships to outmaneuver traffickers.

In a recent interview, Troy highlighted renewed momentum under closed borders, noting how task forces that went silent during policy shifts are now reactivated.

Leanna’s quiet determination ensures every rescued life blooms: whether through a child’s first schoolbook or a woman’s debt-free dawn.

A Call to Join the Roar

Pastor Troy and Leanna Brewer’s work reminds every believer that the fight against human trafficking isn’t for superheroes or reserved for government agencies, it’s for surrendered servants.

In a podcast appearance, Troy urged listeners: “It’s time to roar.” Their achievements: 11,000 rescues, 54 homes, thousands of families rebuilt, stand as beacons, but the battle rages on.

From Burleson’s pews to brothels in Belize, one pastor and his wife are proving that faith without action is dead, and love without borders is limitless.

In their words, partnering isn’t charity, it’s co-laboring in the greatest rescue operation of our time. The world may be broken, but through couples like the Brewers, it’s being mended, one life at a time.
