Darline Graham to Run for Senate: “It Has to Be God’s Plan”

Darline Graham Nordone, sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, announced she will run for his U.S. Senate seat, telling Fox News‘ Sean Hannity that she feels an “inner calling” to continue her brother’s conservative legacy after his sudden death on July 11.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Darline last week to serve out her brother’s current term, which expires in January. She has already been sworn in and now says she will compete in the state’s GOP special primary on August 11.

“It was a shock because it had never entered my mind that I would be asked that question, so it took me a minute to process that,” she told Hannity. “But like I said, it didn’t take me long to realize that I felt this inner calling – it has to be God’s plan, it has to be God’s plan – that I had to carry on his legacy.”

Darline acknowledged the weight of what she’s stepping into. “It is a tremendous amount of pressure,” she said, adding that she has been “praying a lot” about how to navigate her new role. Yet she expressed confidence rooted in faith and hard work. “I know I’m a hard worker. I learned that from Lindsey. I feel like I can do it. I feel an inner peace about it. Will it be difficult? Yes.”

President Trump gave Darline his “Complete and Total Endorsement” on Friday, urging her to run with the message: “RUN, DARLINE, RUN!” She will face Republican challengers including Rep. Russell Fry and Rep. Ralph Norman in the August primary.

The bond between Lindsey and Darline was extraordinary. After their parents died when Lindsey was 21 and Darline was 13, he became her legal guardian and raised her while never marrying. Their closeness shaped his entire career. Now she carries forward what he built, not out of ambition but obedience to what she believes is God’s plan.

Funeral services for Lindsey Graham are scheduled next week in Washington and South Carolina. A preliminary medical examiner report indicated he suffered a tear in his aorta.

This is what faith in action looks like: inner peace amid tremendous pressure, prayer guiding major decisions, and trust that God’s plan is bigger than our own.
