“Pride Month” Is Now “Nuclear Family Month” In Tennessee!

Tennessee’s Governor Bill Lee has officially signed House Joint Resolution 182 which officially designates June 2026 as “Nuclear Family Month.” A bold affirmation of the foundational values that have long shaped Tennessee and the American republic.
A Definition Worth Defending
Sponsored by Representative Bud Hulsey (R-Kingsport) and fifteen Republican colleagues, the resolution defines the nuclear family plainly: one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children. In an era when such a definition is treated as controversial, patriarchal or even oppressive, Tennessee’s willingness to enshrine it in an official resolution is an act of cultural courage.
Rooted in Natural Law and Divine Design
At the heart of the resolution lies a conviction that transcends politics.
Describing the nuclear family as “God’s design for familial structure” and as “God’s perfect design for humanity,” the measure draws on a rich tradition that recognizes the complementarity of male and female, the covenant of husband and wife, and the irreplaceable role of a stable home in raising the next generation.
One element that lends to the importance of this resolution is how it reflects an observable order that, when honored, produces flourishing individuals and resilient societies.
A Clear Legislative Mandate
Tennessee’s resolution’s path to the Governor’s desk was decisive as it passed the House 72–18, cleared the Senate 26–4, and saw the House concur in a Senate amendment by a vote of 72–14. Then, it headed to the Governor’s desk and it was signed.
Thankfully, Tennessee isn’t the only state to proudly promote the family.
Idaho – Traditional Family Values Month
In 2025, Idaho passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 111 and House Concurrent Resolution 18, designating the period from Mother’s Day through Father’s Day as “Traditional Family Values Month.”
The resolutions celebrate the traditional family consisting of a natural female mother and male father, along with children and extended relatives. They also assign specific weeks to honor motherhood, fatherhood, marriage between a man and a woman, and various family roles, while highlighting the proven benefits for children raised in such homes. Both measures passed with strong Republican support.
Texas – Traditional Family Month
In June 2025, the Republican Party of Texas adopted a resolution declaring June as Traditional Family Month and called on Governor Greg Abbott to issue an official state proclamation.
The measure emphasizes the husband-wife family structure as essential for societal health, child-rearing, and generational prosperity, aligning with the party’s platform on traditional values.
Federal Level – Family Month Resolution
In June 2025, U.S. Rep. Mary Miller (R-Illinois), along with co-sponsors including Reps. Michael Cloud (R-Texas) and Harriet Hageman (R-Wyoming), introduced H.Res. 475.
This House resolution supports designating June as “Family Month,” urging the nation to recognize the traditional nuclear family (mother, father, and children) as the foundation of a healthy society, grounded in the principles of marriage and family.
Ohio – Natural Family Month
In May 2025, Ohio Reps. Beth Lear and Josh Williams introduced House Bill 262, which would designate the weeks between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day as “Natural Family Month.”
The bill defines the natural family as a married heterosexual couple raising biological or adopted children and seeks to highlight the importance of this structure for child well-being and community strength. Whilst it received a proponent hearing, it has yet to become law.
Why It Matters
Whilst Tennessee’s resolution doesn’t carry the force of law, it does carry immense weight. How so? A society proclaims its values through what it chooses to honor and Tennessee has chosen to honor the institution most consistently linked to the well-being of children, the stability of communities, and the vitality of civil society.
By reclaiming June for this purpose, the state of Tennessee has made a measured but meaningful act of cultural stewardship whilst offering a commendable example to the nation.
