How Times Square Became a Church on Easter Sunday

Times Square has hosted concerts, New Year’s countdowns, and ticker-tape parades but this Easter Sunday, it held something it has rarely seen: a full Gospel service drawing thousands of worshippers to the crossroads of the world.
The man behind it is Pastor Mike Signorelli, a New York City resident whose conviction that the city needs the light of the Gospel has been building for years. What began as a prayer, a sincere question of what could be done on Easter to push back against what he describes as a rising tide of spiritual darkness, became one of the most remarkable public expressions of faith the city has witnessed in recent memory.

Signorelli’s church is based in New York City, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. Speaking with CBN News before the event, Signorelli framed the gathering not as a religious spectacle but as a family mission.
“I live in New York City with my family. My wife and I are just trying to be a light in the darkness. And New York City is getting incredibly dark — whether it’s false religions, witchcraft, or just the political climate. It’s a dark place.”
Against all odds, the religious event was officially sanctioned by the city of New York in Times Square, this was no small feat. Signorelli acknowledges that everything was stacked against approval, and yet the mayor’s office greenlit the gathering. Beyond the bureaucratic sign-off, he says the response from the broader city was something he had not anticipated.
“The whole city is actually getting behind this — which, again, is unprecedented.”
For Signorelli, that reception was itself a signal. “I think God’s making a big statement,” he told CBN News. “This is bigger than me, bigger than our church. This is really about Jesus Christ.”

THE HARVEST
The service drew thousands in person and was broadcast globally, attracting more than 40,000 online viewers. After the event, Signorelli’s team began receiving messages from people who said they had made a decision to follow Christ; more than 600 in just one portion of the service!
It wasn’t the first time his ministry had seen numbers like this. Following the death of conservative leader Charlie Kirk, Signorelli’s church experienced a sudden surge of spiritual hunger, with 500 people coming to faith over a single weekend, but he’s been careful not to let momentum breed complacency.
THE WARNING
Signorelli’s message isn’t one of unqualified optimism, he draws a sharp picture of what he sees as a world in the grip of accelerating spiritual conflict; cities fracturing, truth buried under what he calls “the propaganda of hell,” and a generation being shaped by deception spread across digital platforms.
“The internet has been a great thing in terms of the Gospel reaching billions of people, but we know that Satan’s using it too — spreading lies. You have mass deception. And many people are succumbing to that.”
Yet his posture is defiant rather than defeated as he believes God is actively raising up people willing to fight for truth and that the outcome of that fight is already settled, even if the battle itself is real.
“I know the outcome — we win. But it’s not gonna come without a fight. That’s why I asked New York City to give me permission to do Easter Sunday in Times Square. I believe God divinely and supernaturally opened this door.”
He closed with an image that captures his entire outlook: two lions. One prowling and predatory. The other sovereign and unstoppable.
“The devil is on the move. He’s out to kill, steal, and destroy. He’s like this prowling lion. But there’s another lion — the Lion of the Tribe of Judah — and He’s roaring over our cities.”
As for what he hopes the world takes away from what happened in Times Square this Easter, Signorelli’s prayer is direct: “That the world watches this and says, ‘OK, it’s time — not for emotionalism, not for hype — but for repentance, and revival, and reformation in America.’”
