Don’t Miss the Consensus: Americans Don’t Want Late-Term Abortion - Revival Nation News - Blog

Two fallacies exist regarding third-trimester abortion in this country. One is that they don’t happen. That mistaken belief was put to rest with the death of abortionist Susan Robinson on Feb. 27.

Her friend and fellow abortionist Shelley Sella – who boasted about being the first woman in America to kill babies in the third trimester in her book, Beyond Limits – posted about her friend Robinson on Instagram:
“Dr. Susan Robinson died this morning, less than a year from her cancer diagnosis,” Sella wrote in a public post. “Susan was my friend and colleague in third trimester abortion care, both in Wichita and Albuquerque… Together, we helped create a model of abortion care that lives on in our mentees.”

Third trimester abortion “care.” Yes, it happens.

The second fallacy regarding the abortion of fully developed babies well past the point of “viability” outside the womb is that there are only a handful of physicians who perform it.

In addition to Robinson and Sella, this group included LeRoy Carhart, Warren Hern, Curtis Boyd and Carmen Landau. All are now retired or deceased. They were the ones unashamed to advertise their services but there are others we know of, and doubtless there are countless others we don’t.

It is accepted by both the pro-life movement and the pro-abortion cabal that abortions beyond 21 weeks comprise only 1 percent of total abortions. But when a million babies are dying from abortion every year, that’s 10,000 babies killed at or past the point of viability. That’s twenty-seven babies with a very good chance of living outside the womb killed every single day.

Most of these babies were not aborted because they had a “life-limiting” disorder or because the pregnancy was imperiling the life of the mother. As Robinson admitted herself in a 2013 interview, healthy babies of healthy mothers are intentionally terminated every day.

A series of undercover phone calls Abortion Free New Mexico made in collaboration with Priests for Life in 2017 backed up what we knew to be true about third-trimester abortion. In one call, made to a New Mexico clinic by a woman who said she was 30 weeks pregnant, the caller said the baby was fine but “life” had gotten in the way. The clinic staffer seemingly didn’t bat an eye, calmly gathering information and detailing how the abortion would proceed.

Life had gotten in the way so death was the next, perfectly legal step.

Right now there are 10 states with no limits on abortion, and 11 more – including big-abortion states like California, Illinois and New York – that allow abortion until viability, but exceptions make it legal all the way through. Someone is doing those abortions, showing up to work every day to dismember babies or deliver dead babies first killed by a shot of poison to the heart. All in a day’s work.

So as much as we in pro-life like to think late-term abortion is coming to an end with the death and the retirement of the most infamous third-trimester practitioners, in fact it is likely to only increase in the months and years ahead.

Our ministry is placing a special emphasis on late-term abortion. With so much focus, and rightly so, on the increasing problem of chemical abortion pills, we run the risk of failing to build on what is already a strong consensus among the American people, namely, that abortion should not occur beyond the first three months of pregnancy. Every opinion poll shows this to be true.

To combat the malignancy of these barbaric abortions, first we have to acknowledge they are a daily occurrence. We have to make sure all Americans know that, yes, it’s happening. Babies “big enough to walk to the bus stop,” in the words of infamous abortionist Kermit Gosnell, are being murdered in the name of choice.

Only after we acknowledge it can we work to abolish it. And we will.
