America Must Classify the Muslim Brotherhood a Terrorist Group, Why Christians Should Care - Revival Nation - Blog

In an era where threats to American sovereignty and Judeo-Christian values loom large, one organization stands out as a stealth adversary: the Muslim Brotherhood.

Founded in Egypt in 1928, this Islamist group has long pursued a global caliphate under sharia law, using both covert infiltration and overt violence to achieve its aims.

Despite its well-documented ties to terrorism and radical ideology, the United States has yet to classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO).

Recent bipartisan efforts, including the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act introduced by Senator Ted Cruz and others, underscore the urgency of this step.
Designating the group as such would cripple its operations, cut off funding, and send a clear message that America will not tolerate enemies hiding in plain sight.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s militant nature is no secret. Operating in over 70 countries, it spawns affiliates that engage in jihadist activities, including groups already blacklisted as terrorists by the U.S. State Department. Its charter explicitly calls for the destruction of Western civilization through “jihad” – not just spiritual struggle, but holy war against non-believers.

This isn’t abstract theory, either. The Brotherhood has a track record of endorsing violence to impose Islamic supremacy. Hamas, the Palestinian terror group responsible for the October 7, 2023, massacre of Israelis and others, proudly traces its roots to the Brotherhood and operates as its ideological offspring. As such, the refusal to designate the parent organization, America has indirectly shielded a network that fuels rocket attacks, suicide bombings, and global instability.

Closer to home, the Brotherhood’s influence has seeped into American soil since the late 1950s, building a web of front groups aimed at “civilizational jihad,” which translates to subverting institutions from within without firing a shot.

Documents seized in U.S. raids, like the Brotherhood’s own strategic memos, reveal plans to infiltrate mosques, universities, and even government advisory roles to advance sharia-compatible policies. Groups linked to this network lobby against counter-terrorism measures and promote narratives that undermine American exceptionalism.

National security demands this be treated as the hybrid threat it is: part ideological insurgency, part terrorist enabler. As such, designation would empower law enforcement to freeze assets, prosecute supporters, and disrupt recruitment, all tools that have been used effectively against al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Designating this group isn’t merely a geopolitical imperative, but rather, it is a moral one, especially for Christians.

The Brotherhood’s worldview is antithetical to the Gospel with Sharia law mandating death for apostasy, subjugates women, and views non-Muslims as second-class citizens or worse.

In Egypt, where the Brotherhood briefly seized power under Mohamed Morsi in 2012-2013, Coptic Christians (the ancient church of Egypt) faced a surge in pogroms. Brotherhood rhetoric accused Copts of conspiring against Islam, inciting mobs to torch over 50 churches and murder dozens in retaliatory violence. Even after Morsi’s ouster, Brotherhood-aligned extremists continue fanning sectarian hatred, bombing churches like St. Peter’s Cathedral in Cairo.

Globally, in MB-influenced regions from Gaza to Sudan, Christians endure forced conversions, kidnappings, and mass displacement, all of which echo the trials faced by the early church under Roman persecution.

Christians in America should care about the MB’s designation because silence emboldens the persecutors. Scripture commands us to “rescue those being led away to death” (Proverbs 24:11) and to stand firm against spiritual darkness (Ephesians 6:12).

The Brotherhood’s advance erodes the religious liberty that allows churches to thrive here in America whilst paving the way for no-go zones and blasphemy laws that stifle evangelism. It mocks the cross by promoting a theocracy that brooks no rivals to Allah.

As stewards of a nation founded on biblical principles, believers must advocate for policies that protect the flock abroad and safeguard our freedoms at home.

President Trump, who previously moved to designate the Brotherhood during his first term, understands this fight. Congress and the administration must act decisively.
