New Trump Guidance Protects Prayer in Schools

President Donald Trump committed his administration to guarding religious liberty during his bid for office, and today, he delivered with the announcement of upcoming guidance from the Department of Education which will protect students’ rights to pray in public schools.
The announcement, made at the White House Religious Liberty Commission’s second public hearing at the Museum of the Bible. The theme of the meeting was religious liberty in public education.
A 12 years old boy fought his school for pushing a book about changing genders, this young boy was invited to speak alongside President Trump at the Museum of the Bible:

One of the speakers, a 12-year-old boy from California, talked about the discrimination he and his family faced due to their Christian beliefs.
The boy was told by his school that he was to use a school issued book about children changing their gender identity and to use it to teach another young boy. When the young child doesn’t feel right about it, his family spoke up and were targeted for their actions.
This case shows the challenges for students of faith in public schools, as religious beliefs are bound to clash with new curricula on gender and identity.
Thus is the reason for the existence of the faith commission. Their desire is to identify and combat emerging threats to religious freedom.
Addressing the targeting of youth for their faith at school, President Trump stated:

“For most of our country’s history, the Bible was found in every classroom in the nation!”
“Yet in many schools today, students are indoctrinated with anti-religious propaganda and punished for their religious beliefs… It’s ridiculous!”
“I’m pleased to announce that the Department of Education will soon issue knew guidance protecting the right to prayer in our public schools.”
The President also addressed several faith leaders, educators, and those a part of the commission, highlighting how America was founded on faith.

The aim of the guidance is to assist in fighting the various threats within the government school system towards religious liberty.
Department of Education Press Secretary Savannah Newhouse agreed with the President, stating that free exercise of religion is a founding principle, as well as a constitutionally protected right for all citizens in our great nation.
Another announcement was also made at the event by Secretary Turner; more than 70 faith organizations and churches have officially joined together to participate in ‘America Prays,’ a faith forward initiative leading up to our nation’s 250th birthday!
“Think about the miracles that would take place over the next year… the transformation that you and I could witness in communities all across the land,” said Secretary Turner.
The new guidance will clarify protections for voluntary student-led prayer, as well as Bible reading during non-instructional time.
Reviving faith in the classroom is ultimately a return to America’s roots, and as such, is an anchoring point for America’s future.
