President Trump Calls America To Prayer Ahead of America’s 250th Birthday

As the United States prepares to mark its 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026, President Donald J. Trump has issued a call for the nation to unite in prayer, invoking the timeless principle of “one nation under God.”
Announced on September 7, 2025, the “America Prays” initiative encourages Americans from all walks of life to dedicate weekly moments of prayer for the country’s future, starting immediately and building toward the grand semiquincentennial celebrations.
Drawing from the nation’s founding heritage, where faith and prayer were cornerstones of the American experiment, Trump emphasized that “from the beginning, this has always been a country sustained and strengthened by prayer.” This call comes amid a yearlong buildup to the milestone, featuring events like the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, a massive military parade, and a National Garden of American Heroes, all aimed at reigniting patriotic fervor.
The initiative suggests gathering with at least 10 others each week to pray for guidance, protection, and prosperity, reflecting Trump’s vision of a faith-infused renewal for the republic as it enters its third century.
The America Prays effort builds on Trump’s longstanding commitment to integrating faith into public life, as seen in his proclamations for the National Day of Prayer and the establishment of the White House Faith Office.
During a July appearance at the Iowa State Fairgrounds to kick off the America250 celebrations, the President invited “America’s great religious communities to pray for our nation and for our people,” promising that “if we bring religion back stronger, you’re going to see everything get better.”
White House Spokeswoman Taylor Rogers described the move as a revival of “one of America’s most prominent and powerful founding principles,” underscoring prayer’s role in fostering unity and strength amid contemporary challenges.
Faith leaders, including Franklin Graham of Samaritan’s Purse, have enthusiastically endorsed the call, with Graham stating, “Our greatest battles are fought on our knees, and through America Prays we can join together to ask God to guide and protect this land.”
As preparations go into full swing, federal task forces are coordinating nationwide festivities and executive orders are being issued to protect religious monuments. Amongst it all, however, is this initiative which positions prayer not just as a personal devotion, but as a collective act to honor the sacrifices of past generations and secure blessings for the next 250 years.
From a Christian perspective, President Trump’s call to prayer holds profound significance as it echoes the biblical mandate to seek God’s face for national healing and direction, as articulated in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
This initiative is one that the believer can rejoice over as America’s founding, which was divinely inspired, with figures like George Washington exemplifying prayer’s pivotal role in the nation’s birth; from his supplications at Valley Forge to the Continental Congress’s days of fasting and prayer, aren’t just being acknowledged but praised.
In the lead-up to the 250th birthday, Trump’s call serves as a clarion call to reclaim the Christian ethos that undergirds the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, both of which counter the various forms of secular drifts and moral relativism that have plagued the soul of our republic.
By urging communal prayer, Trump has aligned himself with the prophetic tradition of leaders like Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, who invoked divine providence during national trials, fostering spiritual revival that could unify the body of Christ across denominations and inspire a generation to live out the Great Commission while stewarding the land God has blessed.
Ultimately, this moment invites Christians to intercede fervently, trusting that through prayer, God will renew America’s covenant with righteousness, ensuring enduring liberty and flourishing for future generations.
